We find this works well, as it focusses our minds on the business, not the numbers. It also helps to produce a business plan which is useful going forward, and can be used by the business to review progress and see clearly what may have changed.
Equally, once the numbers go in, if the plan needs to be changed, the changes can be made in the context of the whole business, rather than a tactical decision to get to the right answer!
